7. Re-evaluation of rock-eval data
Tracking rock-eval data in drill core samples can delineate the relative amounts of S1, S2, and S3 fractions of the oil under hydrolysis at high temperatures. The UDH interpretation indicates that the expulsion of S1 fraction signifies the release of oil, with the S2 refractory portion of the oil being the fraction that remains in the rock. Thus, the depth in the drill core indicates the stratigraphy most likely to contain the highest amount of oil and thus predicts the best layer to be horizontally drilled.
