Mud Volcanism and Seeps – (Black Shales)

    By: Magma Chem Research Institute

    $50.00

Black shales that are erupted from mud volcanoes and seeps are generally hot and contain higher amounts of heavy metals (magnesium, nickel, vanadium, gold, platinum-group elements) than detrital shales. Modern mud volcanoes occur in the Caspian Sea area and in a long line of deep mud volcanoes associated with the Mariana island arc. Seeps at the sea bottom and land surface have similar characteristics.
